title=The French Revolution
desc=The Kingdom of France, once a symbol of European absolutism, is on the brink of collapse. Three years have passed since the people rose up against centuries of inequality and inherited privileges.In May 1789, the outbreak of the financial crisis forced Louis XVI to convene the Estates-General. What was meant to be a mere formality turned into a revolution. The Third Estate, tired of feudal oppression and excluded from royal power, proclaimed itself the National Assembly. The storming of the Bastille on July 14 marked the beginning of the end of the Ancien Régime.In 1790, the nobility began fleeing en masse abroad. Feudal rights were abolished, and the Church was stripped of its lands and subjected to state control. The Constitution of 1791 transformed France into a constitutional monarchy, but the new order is unstable.The king, although obliged to swear loyalty to the new constitution, secretly conspired with the absolutist powers to restore his authority. His attempted escape to Varennes in June 1791 sparked popular outrage and further delegitimized the crown.Meanwhile, the country was plunged into chaos: the economy was collapsing, the army was divided, and the population was becoming radicalized. Political groups such as the Jacobins and Girondins disputed the country's future, while cities became polarized between revolution and reaction.
